Changing real world behaviours through instructional activities
The university is inextricably connected to the wider world through the influence that its students will exert throughout their lives. This connection is captured in the graduate attributes set out by universities and is realized through behavioral changes arising from university education. Behavioral change is complex, involving knowledge acquisition, attitudes development and a range of other factors. Using environmental sustainability as an example we will consider models of behavioral change and related instructional activities. Participants will experience activities designed for an environmental sciences context, evaluate these activities, and then develop interactive activities for generating behavioral change in their own contexts.
Pursuing Academic and Industry Careers in the Life Sciences
Dr. Grace Lee will provide an overview on how targeted personal branding is important for PhD graduates who are moving towards a professional appointment. Dr. Michael Gold will focus on how PhD graduates can prepare an outstanding application for a faculty position in the life sciences. Ms. Nilly Razavi and Dr. Brian Duff will highlight the key attributes of a successful application for positions in industry.
