The conference “Janusz Korczak: His Legacy and Children’s Rights” is organized by the UBC Department of Education and the Janusz Korczak Association of Canada. The event is dedicated to the famous Polish-Jewish educator and champion of children’s rights Janusz Korczak (1878-1942), whose ideas inspired the authors of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (1989).

Circles of Understanding Banner Project – Cultural Awareness Training

This session offers a Cultural Awareness Training program, developed in partnership with Aboriginal community Elders, youth and the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre Society. The Circles of Understanding Project invites participants to visually connect with 10 full-sized educational panels that depict the on-going impacts of the Indian Residential School system on Aboriginal people. A guided dialogue and interactive session about the panels will offer understanding and compassion as important contributions to the healing needed between our peoples, our communities and our nations. The Banner Project also offers on-line youth/Elder mentorship and public engagement activities to promote community healing and recovery.
