The Way Cool Biodiversity Series: Seaweeds are Way Cool because…

Name: Seaweeds are Way Cool because…

Date: Sunday, November 4, 2012

Time: 1:00pm

Location: Beaty Biodiversity Museum

Description: What pops into your head when you hear the word “seaweed” — Slimy? Green? Smelly? How about Beautiful, Useful or Inspirational? We will explore their weird and wonderful shapes, colours and habits; the ways seaweeds have informed us about the natural world; how we use them in our everyday lives; and how their beauty can inspire us artistically — from paintings to poetry, clothing to cupcakes, even musical instruments! Bridgette Clarkston, a UBC post-doctoral fellow, will help you leave more conscious of seaweed in your own life, more proud of and inspired by our diverse local flora, more excited by what we have yet to learn from seaweeds, and more aware that we simply cannot live without these way cool organisms.

The Way Cool Biodiversity Series is a monthly, family-friendly seminar series, celebrating the world around us. At the end of the year, visitors vote on the coolest organism!
