Description

Students enter the classroom with diverse motivations, academic interests, and disciplinary expectations and experiences. One challenge is creating an inclusive environment that welcomes all perspectives while ensuring activities and assessment that fits the needs of the learner. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based framework that helps instructors plan learning to meet needs of all students. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: a) define universal design for learning; b) differentiate between accommodation and universal design for learning; c) identify the challenges involved in creating universal design for learning; and d) develop at least 2 strategies for maintaining and creating inclusive teaching strategies.
