Get a basic introduction to social media in this practical one-day workshop. Through hands-on experience in a computer lab, work with some of social media’s main tools and applications such as social networking (Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+); social news and social bookmarking (Digg, Reddit, Delicious, StumbleUpon); RSS (subscribing to blogs and podcasts); social media sharing (Flickr, YouTubeTM); and microblogging (Twitter, Tumblr).

Note: This workshop is recommended for those new to social media and planning to take other social media courses individually or as part of the UBC Award of Achievement in Social Media. There is no prerequisite for this course.

Facilitator

Tristan Jutras is passionate about fostering relationships using technology. His experience ranges from TV and radio broadcasting to web development, training, social media, marketing, and communications, including over 15 years’ direct experience in online endeavors. As a media and technology expert, his enthusiastic yet thoughtful approach makes him a sought-after consultant by global brands and startups alike. Tristan is supervising producer and host for GetConnected Media, is an active public speaker and guest lecturer, and is a regular guest on Global TV BC News, discussing the latest in social media, apps, websites and tech gear.
