Approaches and innovations in an integrated basic science/clinical curriculum

Approaches and innovations in an integrated basic science/clinical curriculum

Date & Time: Tuesday, October 28, 9am – 11:30am

Location: Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Robert Sindelar Seminar Room, #3340

Description:

There is a trend across health professional education to move towards more integrated curricula, ones that integrate horizontally across disciplines and vertically between basic and clinical sciences. Such integration holds the possibility of increasing student engagement and allowing greater generalization of knowledge in the service of patient care. Such curricular integration alone, however, is not sufficient to improve practice outcomes without additional changes that enhance both learning and problem-solving skills. This seminar will focus on strategies to improve educational outcomes in an integrated health sciences curriculum and is based on the speaker’s own research as well as experiences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Speaker: Dr. Sally Krasne, Professor Emeritus of Physiology (on recall) at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
