Name: Celtic Mythology: The Druids and Their Gods

Time & Date: Saturday, October 29, 2011, 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Room 191, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, 1961 East Mall

Description:
Ireland and Wales share a mythological tradition that once extended over much of Europe. But information about the ancient druids and the gods they worshipped is clouded by misinformation that arose with the Romantic movement. Explore the fragmentary but clear picture that emerges from the scholarship of the last century, using archaeological data and Classical ethnography to augment the stories of gods and heroes preserved in medieval literature.
