The UBC English Language Institute’s Conditional Admission Program is an 8- or 16-week academic English program supporting students conditionally admitted to UBC Vancouver who have not yet met the UBC English Language Admission Standard. Data has shown on completion of this program students are as successful as regularly admitted international students, including native English speakers, when they begin their degree credit programs. http://eli.ubc.ca

UBC Vantage College has a mandate to develop UBC’s understanding of ways to support first-year UBC students with English as a second language, for the benefit of all UBC students. It is intended to be a living laboratory of scholarly teaching, using leading pedagogical, administrative and ethnological approaches to better understand how international students learn. Vantage College’s innovative pedagogy, academic English programming, and administrative process are already attracting attention and interest from universities around the world. http://vantagecollege.ubc.ca/

The UBC-Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Programs currently runs two innovative programs with custom-designed courses that meets the interests and needs of Ritsumeikan University students and offers them a unique opportunity to participate in a study-abroad year at UBC that is focused on providing an effective language learning experience. http://rits.ubc.ca/

The UBC Academic English Support Program is an innovative, blended program which offers free, individualized support to all UBC students whose first language is not English. This support includes one-on-one language coaching with experienced professionals, self-access online modules, discussion groups, writing workshops, and instructor-led classes. http://aes.ubc.ca
