Negotiating with Your Supervisor

Name: Negotiating with Your Supervisor

Time & Location: 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Location: Point Grey Graduate Student Centre, Crescent Road

Description: The focus of this session is interest-based negotiation, and ways in which the principles can be used to ensure that your relationship with your supervisor is focused, productive and positive. We’ll begin this half-day session by considering some of the potential challenges in students/supervisor relationships, using pre-recorded vignettes and facilitated discussion. We will then move on to appreciate the elements of a productive mentoring relationship, and hear about some positive situations that have been satisfying for both everyone involved. Dr. Krank will introduce the interest-based negotiation model, and suggest ways in which you can apply the model during your time in graduate school…and beyond.

Speakers will be Dr, Marvin Krank, UBC Okanagan and David Chui, Faculty of Education Graduate Student
