Description: Dr. Garvey will draw her talk from her recent Oxford University Press book, Writing with Scissors: American Scrapbooks from the Civil War to the Harlem Renaissance. Garvey is a leading scholar of popular print culture, advertising and media, whose work has informed scholars and students in multiple disciplines. At the same time, she is a very accessible speaker with a real sense of the importance of popular print culture to the general public.
