Time & Date: Friday, October 29, 2010  11:30AM – 1:00PM

Location: Irving K. Barber Learning Centre – Seminar Room 2.22A/B

Description:

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the basics of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). You will experience the PBL process from the perspective of a new tutor in the Faculty of Medicine. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to describe the main organizational stages of a PBL tutorial, the activities that students undertake as they work through a PBL case, what the learning issues are and why they are of value in the PBL process, and the tasks and observable behaviours of a PBL tutor.

You will also learn about the evaluation tool; “The 3 Ps; Preparation, Participation and Professional Behaviour”, that Medicine currently applies. Participants will not leave being equipped to design or deliver PBL, but being aware of the attributes and requirements of PBL. A follow up workshop on handling challenges in PBL tutoring will be offered in the Spring of 2011.

This free event is open to UBC students, faculty and staff.
